Records include correspondence, memoranda, minutes, reports, cadet registers and records, orders and other issuances, publications, returns, rosters, photographs and negatives of cadets and academy life, sound recordings, fiscal accounts, and course materials from the academic departments. Records include the Superintendent; Dean of the Academic Board; Department of Tactics; Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics; Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel and Administration; Deputy Chief of Staff, Comptroller; Special Staff; Boards and Committees; Discontinued Commands; Troops Stationed at West Point; and Quasi-Official Academy Associations. Because of the joint responsibilites of certain officials, there are also some 19th and early 20th century records pertaining to the administration of the Post at West Point and the many detachments of enlisted personnel assigned to train cadets or otherwise support the Academy's mission.

West Point, N.Y., was originally utilized as a strategic defense location during the American Revolution. West Point is geographically located on a 100 ft. plateau overlooking the Hudson River.
